The cultural and political capital of New Zealand, Wellington is a vibrant city not to be missed. With its suburbs clinging precariously to the hills surrounding the beautiful harbour, it's as appealing to look at as it is interesting to explore.
Wellington is also the departure point for excursions into the Wairarapa region and ferries to the South Island. To get a taste of New Zealand culture, see a play at one of the many theatres or visit the city's art gallery or the national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa.
